Double Flanged Bearings

Snap-In Bearings

Thomson™ Nyliner™ double flanged bearings are designed for easy installation. These snap-in bearings offer all the benefits of a traditional metal bearing, paired with the benefits of a conventionally installed seen in straight sleeve bearings and flanged bearings. They are designed for use with especially thin plates or applications where bearing retention is typically an issue.

Double flanged bearings are designed with double flange construction to assure positive bearing retention. The larger of the two flanges has sufficient area to take thrust loads. These snap in bearings feature the our standard axial compensation gap to compensate for fluctuations in temperature and humidity. However, on our double flanged bearings, the axial compensation gap also assists with easy installation by allowing the smaller of the flanges to be collapsed and spiraled through the mounting hole. These snap-in bearings are available in Thomson Nyliner's high performance polymer.

Clearances

The minimum diametral shaft to bearing clearance normally recommended for double flanged bearings is .001˝. These clearances are recommended to allow proper running clearance for trouble-free operation. Bearings will expand slightly due to frictional heat and moisture absorption. The majority of this expansion is accommodated by the compensation gap. Changes in wall thickness are minimal due to the thin wall construction of Thomson Nyliner bearings.

Installation

The compensation gap allows our double flanged bearings to be collapsed so the smaller flange can be easily spiralled through the mounting hole. Snap-in installation is fast and economical. During installation, the bearing is located over the hole with the gap facing up. Light finger pressure exerted to the left of the compensation gap spirals the bearing into position.
